Climbers, Hippies, Tourists – Wonderful Desert Live in Joshua Tree

Joshua Tree is one of my favourite places in the US, partly because I have family there and am so lucky as to call the place a home away from home, but also because even though I am a mountain person I find the desert truly magical and because the tiny town of Joshua tree is a great place to hang out. So here is my top seven things to do in this wonderland of rock and dust.

Re-visiting Yosemite Nationalpark this summer I wanted to see a little more than just the valley. So I talked my travel buddies into a four-days-backcountry-trek – including scary cables, obese squirrels and a sunrise to remember.

Lassen Volcanic Nationalpark is in my humble opinion one of California’s more underrated national parks. Which meant that when we visited it in August it was surprisingly non-crowded. Surprisingly, because sight-wise Lassen turned out to be one of my favourite parks. Weird volcanic mud action, beautiful mountain scenery and one of the easiest 3000-meter-peaks to climb.
